Summer earned four varsity letters in softball while at MC. She also played soccer all four years. She played an integral role in the transition of the women’s soccer program from a club sport to a varsity sport in 1988. Summer was selected first team All-OAC and Academic All-OAC as a senior in 1988, the first season that women’s soccer was a varsity sport in the conference.
Summer played outfield on MC’s softball team, earning first team All-OAC and first team All-Region in 1989, when she batted .346. Summer received Academic All-OAC honors in softball as a senior while also being named to the GTE Academic All-District team. Summer was given the Clyde A. Lamb award in 1989.
Following her time at Marietta, Summer went directly to OSU and earned her MBA in Finance and Logistics in 1991. She was hired by Shell Oil Company and worked there for 11 years before starting with Chevron/Texaco.
Summer, a native of Columbus, has one son, Luke, and resides in Houston, Texas. She is an active member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, where she volunteers to work with children in a variety of programs.
