Johnson earned three varsity letters as the starting second baseman for the Etta Express. He was a two-time All-American earning third team honors in 1993 and first team accolades in 1995.
The 1995 recipient of the Way-Weigelt Award, Johnson earned All-OAC honors three times in his career in the Pinstripes: second team in 1993 and first team in 1994 and 1995. He was named All-Region in each of those three seasons as well garnering first team nods in 1993 and 1995 and second team honors in 1994.
Following his playing career in the Pinstripes, Johnson served as a student assistant coach for the 1996 season. He signed a professional contract with the Newark Bison of the Frontier League. Johnson coached baseball at West Muskingum High School for three years and is in his eighth year coaching middle school girls basketball.
Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in History from Marietta College in 1996. He currently works as a salesman for Conn’s Potato Chips. Johnson and his wife Amy have two children: Laney and Lyla.
