Nangle, a native and resident of Zanesville, Ohio, amassed seven varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. As a forward and two-year letterwinner on the men’s basketball team, Nangle was one of the team’s top scorers. Nangle served as a captain his senior season and was also second on the team in scoring with 292 points and a 14.6 average.
Nangle was just as successful on the baseball diamond, where he started at third base for head coach Don Drumm his freshman year. In his junior year, the squad went 12-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play, winning the Ohio Athletic Conference championship, while Nangle went .339 from the plate.
After graduating from Marietta, Nangle went back to Zanesville, where he taught social studies and coached at his alma mater (Rosecrans High School) from 1957 to 1969. In 1971, Nangle received his master’s degree in counseling from Xavier University and he went on to become a guidance counselor at Tri-Valley High School, where he remained until 1994. He retired from the public school system in 1994 and is now a full-time car salesman in Zanesville.
Nangle and his wife, Peggy, have five children, Cathy, Steven, Karen, Kelly and Nicki.
