David Brown rowed for four years under former coach Ralph Lindamood. He spent his entire career in the varsity eight boat and logged over 8,000 miles on the water, more than enough to row from New York to London and back again.

With Brown in the No. 7 seat, the Pioneers captured Dad Vail silver in 1962, gold in 1963, bronze in 1964 and silver in 1965. The heavyweight shell was a combined 40-4 during his career. Brown capped his time in the Navy Blue and White by earning the inaugural Marietta College Outstanding Oarsman Award.

Away from MC, Brown competed in the 1964 Olympic Trials for Undine Barge Club. His eight-man crew finished second to the Vesper boat that went on to win Olympic gold in Tokyo.

Following graduation, Brown served four years in the United State Navy earning the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class CT. In addition to his time in the Navy, Brown spent nearly 35 years in various management positions at Strawbridge & Clothier, a department store chain co-founded by his great grandfather in Philadelphia.

David and his wife Jill have two sons, Peter and Paul. The couple was active in the breeding and showing of dogs as members of the Irish Terrier Club of America. Brown headed the Judges Education Committee for over 12 years and was responsible for the development of the Illustrated Study of the Irish Terrier.
