Hayes, the 1997 OAC Clyde Lamb Award and Way-Weigelt Award winner, dominated the hardwood for the basketball team from 1993-97. The four-year letterman graduated as the Pioneers’ all-time leader in points (1,710), rebounds (1,050), field goal percentage (62.4%) and free throw attempts (626). He remains the career leader in rebounds, field goal percentage and free throw attempts while second in points. Hayes, a center, led the NCAA Division III in field goal percentage (67.9%) and set the school’s single-season record for rebounds (309) in 1996-97. The three-time MVP of the Marietta Shrine Tournament earned All-OAC second team honors as a sophomore before moving up to All-OAC first team honors as both a junior and senior. Hayes, an eight-time OAC Player of the Week, also earned Academic All-OAC honorable mention in both 1995 and 1996 and then Academic All-OAC in 1997. The senior captain picked up All-Region first team honors in 1997.
Hayes works as the Director of Sales & Marketing for Rogers Electric. He and his wife Susan (Cook) ’98 reside with their son J.J. in Cumming, Ga.
