Black, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, was a defensive back who holds the career record for interception return yards, punt returns, punt return yards and kickoff returns. He is a three-time All-OAC selection, earning first team honors in 1976 and 1977. In 1977 he was the national leader in Division III punt return average, with 38 yards per return, and in 1978 he was selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

While at Marietta College, Black was a four-year letterwinner in football and the first freshman to start for Coach Joe McDaniel. He set an OAC record for the longest kickoff return for a touchdown (100 yards). He also holds the single season individual record for interceptions and interception return yards.

In his freshman and sophomore years, Black also lettered in track. After graduating from Marietta, he went on to play semi-pro football in the Columbus Metro League for three years.

Black has served as the President of the Bloom-Carroll School Board and is still a member of the Board of Education.  He is also involved with the Fairfield Christian Church and is a Boy Scout Troopmaster.

Black is the vice president of sales at Berwanger Overmeyer Association. He and his wife, Liz, have three children, Laurie, Charles and Kristen.
