Hall of Fame
Ralph Lindamood, '46, enters the Hall of Fame not long after retiring from 25 years (1959-84) as head crew coach, a tenure constituting approximately half of the life of the sport here.
The crew program was, to a considerable degree, a stepchild when he took charge on a part-time basis. Five years later he joined the PE-athletics faculty full-time. His boats won lots of races, of course (80% of all they entered, and three varsity heavyweight championships). But his contributions went beyond crossing finish lines first. His stamp is on many other rowing aspects- bringing stability and expansion to the program, the Boat House improvements, starting up women's crew, the trip to Germany and Henley for races, nurturing of the supportive Friends of Rowing, encouraging crew programs at other colleges and Ohio Valley high schools. And perhaps the most important- gaining the deep and lasting respect of MC crew alumni.
