Hall of Fame
Charles Edwards, who earned four varsity letters in rowing, was a member of the men’s rowing team from 1964-67. He joins fellow teammates Bill Burnham ’67, James Byer ’66, Tom Feaster ’69, Terry Morris ’69 and David Nystrom ’67 in the Hall of Fame. One of just three oarsmen to row in the varsity boat for four years during the Lindamood era, Edwards’ crews were an incredible 63-1 during his career in the Navy Blue and White. A testament to his abilities, Edwards stroked the varsity boat as a freshman and would go on to stroke both the 1966 and 1967 Dad Vail Champion shells. The 1967 crew was invited to participate in the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in England and the Gillette Cup Regatta in Ratzeburg, Germany. During his career, the Pioneer Navy enjoyed its greatest run of success winning two gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the Dad Vail Regatta. Prior to Marietta College, Edwards was a member of the 1963 national high school rowing championship shell from F.C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, Va.
Edwards, who graduated with a degree in Economics, was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, Theatre Guild and the Economics Club. He retired after a 35-year career with Sears Roebuck and Co. Edwards currently lives in Grand Haven, Mich., with his wife Sue, whom he married during his sophomore year at Marietta. They have two adult children, son Chris and daughter Beth, as well as five grandchildren.
