Blake, a resident of Chilton, Wis., earned two varsity letters in football and three in track. He was captain of the Pioneer football team his senior season and holds the Marietta record in the 120 yard high hurdles.  He also was named first-team All-OAC in football and was All-OAC track performer in 1972-73.

“I never expected to receive this honor.” Blake says.  “There was so many other great athletes at Marietta that this comes as a big surprise.”

Blake, won the Way-Weiglet award and the Don Drumm Award.  During his senior season he was invited and played in the All Ohio Shrine Bowl.  However , the highlight of his career could be competing in the high jump at the NCAA Division III National Track Meet in 1973.

“It was a great honor to be able to compete with such talented athletes,” said Blake.  “I was just extremely happy to be there and I made opening height which I felt was a great accomplishment.”

Blake received his D.V.M. degree to become a veterinarian from the University of Illinois in 1977.  Today, he is half owner of Calumet Veterinary Service.  It is a large animal practice that specializes as a Dairy Herd Health practice.

Blake and his wife Ann, have two children, a son and a daughter.
