Duane Theiss, '76. One of several Marietta diamond stars to graduate into professional baseball, Duane was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1975. The hard-throwing- right-hander spent seven years in the Braves' organization before a shoulder injury cut short his career. He was an outstanding pitcher for the "Etta Express" from 1973-1975. In his three years on the team, he won three letters and a number of honors. In 1974 he was the team ERA leader, an All-Ohio Athletic Conference second team selection, and second team NCAA All- District. He was honorable mention All-OAC in 1975. During those years Pioneer teams won OAC titles in 1973 and 1975 and lost out in the final game of the "College Davison World Series" in 1975.
Following his retirement from professional baseball, Duane returned to Marietta College where he served as full-time pitching coach from 1982-1986. He has recently been hired as full-time pitching coach at Ohio State University.
