ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union shutout Marietta College 9-0 Wednesday (April 5) afternoon in women's tennis. The Pioneers fall to 0-13 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Mount Union improves to 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Raiders' Gretchen Groves ad Alix Stein blanked
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) at No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Kayla Johnston and Jordan Teaford were 8-2 winners at No. 2 over
Sarina Singh () and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca). The tandem of Anna Nelson and Ashley Gran completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win against
Spenser Jackson (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) and
Erin Rogers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) at No. 3.
Mount Union swept the six singles matches with straight-set wins at each position. Groves downed Becker at No. 1, 6-2 and 6-2. Teaford beat Singh at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-2, while Stein downed Warvell at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-1.
At No.4, Johnston beat Young, 6-2 and 6-1. Nelson and Megan Marsh each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Nelson defeated Jackson, while Marsh topped
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne).
