Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost its season opener to Ashland University by the score of 9-0 Saturday (Mar. 16) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-1 on the season, while Ashland improves to 8-3 on the season.
Playing shorthanded, the Pioneers staked Ashland to a three-point lead as Marietta forfeited at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
Ashland's Luciana Ottoni and Evie Pryor downed
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
Sarah Wallenfelsz (Newark, Ohio/Granville) at No. 1 doubles by the score of 8-0.
Emily Comiskey (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) and
Riley Hayes (Hazel Green, Ala./Hazel Green) dropped an 8-0 decision at No. 2 doubles to Alley Stoehr and Brittany Witsken.
Claudia Adcock defeated Wallenfelsz at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-0. Witsken beat Comiskey at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-0, while Pryor took down Haidar at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-1. At No. 4, Stoehr was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Hayes.
Marietta hosts Capital University next Saturday (Mar. 23) at 1:00 p.m.
