MARIETTA, Ohio — Capital University defeated Marietta College in women's tennis by the score of 9-0 Saturday (Mar. 23) afternoon in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both schools. The Pioneers fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Capital improves to 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in the OAC.
The Comets led 3-0 after doubles. Anna Fletcher and Nicole Flock blanked
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
Sarah Wallenfelsz (Newark, Ohio/Granville) at No. 1, 8-0.
Emily Comiskey (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) and
Riley Hayes (Hazel Green, Ala./Hazel Green) lost to Annika Hansen and Rachel Smith at No. 2, 8-1. The Pioneers forfeited the No. 3 doubles match.
Fletcher beat Wallenfelsz at No. 1 singles, 6-1 and 6-1. Comiskey lost to Flock at No. 2, 6-3 and 6-1. At No. 3, Hansen bested Haidar, 6-3 and 6-2. Amy Wright-Lovell won at No. 4 over Hayes, 6-4 and 6-0. Marietta forfeited the Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches.
Marietta hosts Ohio Northern University on Friday (Mar. 29) at 1:00 p.m.
