TIFFIN, Ohio — Heidelberg University defeated Marietta College by the score of 6-3 Sunday (April 2) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis. The loss drops Marietta to 0-12 on the season and 0-1 in the OAC. The Student Princes are now 1-6 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The Pioneers trailed 2-1 after doubles play. The MC duo of
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) beat Markilynn Hogle and Nicole Miller at No. 1 by the score of 8-4.
Heidelberg won the bottom two matches. Allie Gales and Gabi Osterman took the No. 2 match from
Sarina Singh () and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca), 8-1. At No. 3,
Spenser Jackson (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) and
Erin Rogers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) lost to Jillian Goulet and Mallory Paul, 8-2.
Becker was victorious at No. 1 singles. She downed Hogle, 7-5 and 6-3. Marietta's final point came from Young at No. 4 singles. Young defeated Goulet, 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (7-9) and 1-0 (10-5).
The Student Princes picked up points at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. Millar beat Singh at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-0, while Gales downed Warvell at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-2.
HU's Summer Hunter-Kysor was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Jackson at No. 5 and Osterman posted a straight-set win against
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) at No. 6, 6-2 and 6-2.
