CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 9-0 loss at John Carroll University Saturday (April 29). The loss drops Marietta to 3-17 on the season and 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll improves to 12-9 overall and 8-0 in the OAC.
The Blue Streaks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches. At No. 1, Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini defeated
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock), 8-1. Carlye Campagna and Jennifer Stroyne were 8-0 winners over
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca) at No. 2, while Ellie Cole and Katherine Devine beat
Spenser Jackson (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) and
Erin Rogers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) at No. 3 by the same score.
John Carroll posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in each of the six singles matches. O'Malley downed Becker in the top spot. Rini beat Warvell at No. 2, while Devine topped Young at No. 3.
At No. 4, Nicolette Bourlas took down Jackson. Stuart fell to Molly Traverso at No. 5 and Natalie Bourlas won at No. 6 over Rogers.
Marietta opens OAC Tournament play on Tuesday (May 2). The seeding for the tournament will be finalized on Sunday.
