MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team posted a clean 9-0 sweep of Capital University Tuesday (April 18) afternoon at the Beren Family Tennis Center. The Pioneers are now 2-16 overall and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital slips to 1-9 overall and 0-5 on the OAC.
All three doubles matches resulted in identical 8-3 wins for Marietta College.
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) beat MacKenzie Archibald and Monique Hanayik at No. 1, while
Sarina Singh () and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca) took down Samm Smith and Megan Williams at No. 2. In the final doubles match,
Spenser Jackson (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) and
Erin Rogers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) topped Desiree Molina and Katie Woods.
The Pioneers recorded straight-set wins in all but the No. 2 singles match. Warvell and Williams split the first two sets at No. 2 with Williams winning the first, 7-6 (8-6), and Warvell the second, 6-4. Warvell won the match with a 10-6 win in the third.
In the top spot, Becker downed Hanayik, 6-2 and 6-1. Singh beat Archibald at No. 3 and Young defeated Smith at No. 4, by the same 6-2, 6-1 score.
Jackson was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 5 over Molina and
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) completed the sweep with a win at No. 6 against Emily Conn, 6-1 and 6-0.
