WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Otterbein University defeated Marietta College in women's tennis by the score of 9-0 Tuesday (April 11) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-15 overall and 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Otterbein improves to 11-3 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
Otterbein took an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles play. In the top spot, Rylie Markle and Makayla Sutter beat Carey becker and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock), 8-1. At No. 2, Sophia Navas-Davis and Emily Quill were 8-2 winners over
Sarina Singh () and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca). In the final doubles match,
Erin Rogers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) and
Spenser Jackson (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) fell to Megan Stuteville and Marriella Briones, 8-0.
The Cardinals swept all six singles matches. Markle downed Becker at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-0. At No. 2, Sutter beat warvell, 6-1 and 6-1, while Sophie Allen blanked Singh at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-0.
Navas-Davis topped Young at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-3. At No. 5, Briones defeated Jackson, 6-0 and 6-0. In the final singles match, Megan Yates was victorious against
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), 6-0 and 6-0.
Marietta travels to Mason, Ohio for a pair of matches at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on Friday (April 14). The Pioneers play Muskigum University at 9:00 a.m. and Ohio Northern University at 12:00 p.m.
