HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Marietta College women's tennis team finished its spring trip with a 6-3 loss to Stevenson University Friday (march 17) afternoon. The Pioneers drop to 0-10 overall, while Stevenson is 2-5 on the season.
Senior
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) claimed two of Marietta's three team points in the match. Becker and her partner,
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock), defeated Kelsi Mentzer and Jenna Skove at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Becker then downed Skove at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-4 and 1-0 (10-5).
The Pioneers led 2-1 after doubles play as MC's No. 3 team of
Spenser Jackson (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) and
Erin Rogers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) were 8-3 winners over Nina Bretz and Emily Herzog. Stevenson took the No. 2 match as Kirstyn Davidson and Christina Endy beat
Sarina Singh () and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca), 9-7.
Davidson beat Singh at No. 2 singles, 7-5 and 6-3, while Mentzer downed Warvell at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-4. At No. 4, Endy posted a 6-2, 6-3 win against Young. Herzog won in straight sets at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Rogers.
In the final singles match, Bretz needed three sets at No. 5 to slip past Jackson. Jackson won the first set 6-3 and Bretz took the second by the same score. Bretz won the match with a 10-5 score in the third.
