HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Marietta College women's tennis team opened its spring trip with a pair of losses. The Pioneers fell to Carroll University by the score of 9-0 and lost to Susquehanna University, 8-1.
Carroll (10-8 overall) swept the three doubles matches to open the match. Megan Krzewinski and Lauren Miketinac edged
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) at No. 1 by the score of 8-6. At No. 2, Tiffany Maggioncalda and Shanna Mogden posted an 8-2 win over
Sarina Singh () and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca). In the final doubles match, Lauren Jirik and Megan Wiersma were 8-0 winners over
Spenser Jackson (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) and
Erin Rogers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington).
Miketinac took the No. 1 singles match from Becker, 6-1 and 6-0. Krzewinski and Mogden were victorious at Nos. 2 and 3 by against Warvell and Singh, respectively, by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
At No. 4, Maggioncalda downed Young, 6-0 and 6-0, while Nicole Panarese beat Jackson at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0. Wiersma completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 against Rogers.
Susquehanna (5-2 overall) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Alyssa Fleischman and Abigail Ransom were 8-5 winners at No. 1 over Becker and Warvell. At No. 2, Megan Rudloff and Linsey Sipple downed Singh and Young, 8-3. Cassey Fox and Eliza Griffin completed the doubles weep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 against Jackson and Rogers.
Becker claimed Marietta's lone team point at No. 1 singles. Becker won a three-set thriller over Fleischman. Fleischman took the first set, 6-4, and Becker won the second set by the same score. Becker won the match with a 10-7 win in the third.
Warvell fell to Sipple at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-0. At No. 3, Rudloff downed Singh, 6-0 and 6-1. Griffin beat Young at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-2, while Fox took down Jackson at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-1. At No. 6, Amy Jennings beat Rogers, 6-1 and 6-0.
