BEREA, Ohio — Snow on the ground in April did little to slow down Baldwin Wallace University as the Yellow Jackets defeated Marietta College 9-0 Saturday (April 9) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action. BW improves to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 5-10 on the season and 1-2 in the OAC.
Baldwin Wallace swept the doubles play for an early 3-0 lead. Kelsey Blatt and Imani Robinson took the No. 1 match from
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington), 8-2. At No. 2, Claire Watts and Mackenzie Donalson were 8-4 winners over
Elyssa Ackerman (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur), while Shannon Finkenthal and Kathleen Moser downed
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca) at No. 3, 8-2.
The Yellow Jackets posted straight-set wins in each of the six singles matches. Blatt beat Becker in the top spot, 6-2 and 6-3. Robinson and Watts were victorious at Nos. 2 and 3. Robinson defeated Ackerman, 6-0 and 6-0, at No. 2, while Watts was a 6-4, 6-2 winner against Seals at No. 3.
Donalson topped Stankus at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-2. Kelly Peskura beat Nelson at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0. Young fell to Finkenthal at No. 6, 6-4 and 6-0.
