COLUMBUS, Ohio — Marietta College beat Capital University 8-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action Wednesday (April 20) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 6-10 on the season and 2-5 in the OAC. The Crusaders fall to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) improved to 8-6 on the season in doubles play with their 8-2 win over Brittany Keuneke and Jennie Schott at No. 1 doubles.
Elyssa Ackerman (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) won at No. 2 over Amy Stammen and Megan Williams, 8-3.
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 against Chelsea Pla and Annika Wachtman.
Stankus and Young made quick work of their singles opponents. Stankus blanked Wachtman at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-0, while Young beat Pla at No. 6 by the same score. Nelson was close behind with her 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Stammen.
At No. 3, Seals topped Williams, 6-3 and 6-0. Becker accounted for the Pioneers' final team point with a win at No. 1. Becker beat Keuneke 6-4, 1-6 and 1-0 (10-2) improving to 10-9 on the season in singles play.
Capital's lone point came at No. 2 where Schott edged Ackerman in three sets. Ackerman took the first set 6-2, but Schott bounced back to win the second set 6-3 and then secured the victory with a 10-4 score in the third.
