NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team dominated rival Muskingum University en route to a 9-0 Ohio Athletic Conference win Saturday (April 2) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 5-8 on the season and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Muskies fall to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the OAC.
Marietta made quick work of the doubles play posting 8-0 shutouts in the first and third matches. In the top spot,
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) blanked Elizabeth Knauss and Lindsay Brindack, while
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca) did the same at No. 3 over Katie King and Amanda Gaeckle.
In the No. 2 doubles match,
Elyssa Ackerman (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) downed Nikola Burkard and Krsiten Chandler, 8-3.
It was much of the same in singles as Marietta posted six straight-set wins. At No. 1, Becker took down Knauss, 6-2 and 6-2. Ackerman won at No. 2 over Brindack, 6-4 and 6-1, while Seals was a 7-5 and 6-1 winner at No. 3 against Burkard.
Stankus posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Chandler at No. 4, while Nelson beat King at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-1. In the final match, Young blanked McDaniel, 6-0 and 6-0.
The Pioneers host the University of Mount Union on Wednesday (April 6) in a 3:30 p.m. OAC match.
