MASON, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost two Ohio Athletic Conference matches Saturday (April 16) at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The Pioneers fell to Ohio Northern, 8-1, and Heidelberg, 9-0.
Marietta is 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the OAC. Ohio Northern improves to 12-2 on the season and 2-1 in the OAC, while Heidelberg is now 4-6 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Pioneers trailed Ohio Northern 2-1 after doubles play. The Polar Bears posted 8-0 wins at Nos. 2 and 3, while Marietta took the No. 1 match, 8-5.
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) beat Meghan Letizia and Brittany Toney in the top spot. At No. 2, Kirsten Adamson and Taryn Stromback beat
Elyssa Ackerman (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur). Morgan McGlothlin and Elise Smith downed
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca) at No. 3.
The Polar Bears swept singles. Stromback beat Becket at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-0. At No. 2, Letizia topped Ackerman, 6-0 and 6-0, while McGlothlin was a 6-2, 6-0 winner against Seals at No. 3.
Toney edged Stankus at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-3. At No. 5, Smith defeated Nelson, 6-1 and 6-1. In the final match, Adamson blanked
Megan Horsley (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes), 6-0 and 6-0.
Heidelberg jumped out to the early 3-0 lead after doubles. The Student Princes completed the sweep with straight-set wins in each of the six singles battles.
