MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team was blanked by Otterbein University, 9-0, Tuesday (April 12) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Cardinals improve to 13-1 on the season and 3-0 in the OAC.
The Pioneers fell behind 3-0 after doubles. Adrien Leatherwood and Rylie Markle downed
Carey Becker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. At No. 2, Sammi Kruger and Sophia Navas-Davis were 8-0 winners over
Elyssa Ackerman (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur). Sophie Allen and Megan Yates posted the same score at No. 3 against
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca).
In the top singles match, Markle beat Becker, 7-5 and 6-0. Allen and Kruger took the Nos. 2 and 3 matches, respectively, by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Allen defeated Ackerman at No. 2 and Kruger beat Seals at No. 3.
At No. 4, Leatherwood topped Stankus, 6-0 and 6-2, while Megan Locke was victorious against Nelson at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-1. Navas-Davas completed the sweep by downing Young at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-2.
The Pioneers travel to Mason, Ohio for a pair of matches on Saturday (April 16). Marietta plays Ohio Northern at 11 a.m. and Heidelberg at 2 p.m. Fans can follow the Pioneers all year long at
