MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College swept Earlham College 9-0 Sunday (Sept. 6) morning in women's tennis. The Pioneers evened their season record at 1-1, while the Quakers fall to 0-1 overall.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
Carey Becker (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) blanked Jordyn Grimes and Priscilla Coronado at No. 1, 8-0.
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) and Elyssa Ackerman took the No. 2 match over Carley Carpenter and Lexi Aligrabes by the same score. At No. 3, Brandi Reed and
Latrice Nelson (Austintown/Austintown Fitch) were 8-2 winners against Kaitlin Morgan and Wei-Yung Lei.
Becker, Ackerman and Stankus posted straight-set wins in the top three singles positions. Becker beat Grimes at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-0. Ackerman posted a 7-5, 6-0 win over Aligrabes at No. 2, while Stankus downed Carpenter at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-1.
At No. 4, Nelson notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Coronado. Seals beat Lei at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0, while Jamie Shoots completed the sweep with a victory over Ziqi Wang at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-0.
