WAYNESBURG, Pa. — The Marietta College women's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday (Sept. 19) afternoon. The Pioneers lost to Geneva College 7-2 before bouncing back to defeat Waynesburg University by the same score. Marietta is currently 2-4 on the season.
Against Geneva (7-2 overall), Marietta picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 4 singles.
Carey Becker (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) defeated Sara Stoll at No. 1, 6-2 and 6-1. At No. 4,
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) downed Megan Hinds, 6-2 and 7-6.
The Pioneers won two of the three doubles matches against Waynesburg (0-6 overall). Becker and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) won in the top spot against Aubree Brown and Rachel Klemash, 8-2. In the No. 3 doubles match, Elyssa Ackerman and
Latrice Nelson (Austintown/Austintown Fitch) were 8-4 winners over Danielle Juzwick and Amanda Hooker.
Marietta won all but one of the singles matches. Becker beat Emily McDonold at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-2. Nelson defeated Hooker at No. 3, 6-3 and 6-2, while Stankus downed Mallory Tiffin at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-3.
Brandi Reed and Seals won at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Reed blanked Heidi Evans, 6-0 and 6-0. Seals beat Elizabeth Ensminger, 6-0 and 6-1.
Marietta wraps up the fall portion of its schedule on Sunday (Sept. 27) when the Pioneers hosts Franciscan University at 4:00 p.m. Fans can follow all of the Pioneer teams all year long at
