MEDINA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team finished the regular season with a 9-0 loss at John Carroll University Saturday (April 25) afternoon. The Pioneers are currently 4-12 overall and 3-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll improves to 12-6 on the season and 7-1 in the OAC.
The Blue Streaks swept the doubles play for an early 3-0 lead. The No. 1 team of Nicolette and Natalie Bourlas defeated
Carey Becker (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) and
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat), 8-1. At No. 2, Tracy Gibson and Katherine Devine were 8-0 winners over
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington). Kelsey Jeffrey and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) out up a good fight at No. 3 before falling 8-5 to Molly Traverso and Ivana Didovic.
Nicolette Bourlas downed Becker at No. 1 singles, 6-3 and 6-0. Jennifer Stroyne posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 against Gisser, while Catherine Engel downed
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-1.
Devine blanked Bush at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-0, while Gibson defeated Jeffrey by the same score at No. 5. Natalie Bourlas completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Stankus at No. 6.
Marietta will be the No. 6 seed in next week's OAC Tournament. The Pioneers travel to No. 3 seed Mount Union on Wednesday (April 29) at 3:30 p.m. The Purple Raiders beat Marietta in Alliance 8-1 during the regular season.
