MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College dropped a women's tennis match to visiting Alderson Broaddus University by the score of 5-2 Saturday (March 21) afternoon. The Pioneers are currently 1-6 on the season, while the Battlers are 1-4 overall.
Playing a best-of-seven format, Alderson Broaddus swept the two doubles matches. Stephanie Gertsakis and Mireia Fabrega took the No. 1 match from
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville), 8-3. At No. 2, Nicole Martin and Jordyn Walker were 8-5 winners over
Latrice Nelson (Austintown/Austintown Fitch) and
Hannah Stankus (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur).
The Battlers claimed the top three singles matches to secure the team victory. Gertsakis downed Turner at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-1. Fabrega posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stankus at No. 2, while Walker beat Nelson at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-2.

Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington), playing in her first match back from a knee injury, defeated Martin at No. 4, 6-2 and 7-6 (9-7). The Pioneers' final point came at No. 5 where freshman
Mandee Young (Poca, W.Va./Poca) picked up her first collegiate victory with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Taylor Swift.
Marietta opens Ohio Athletic Conference play next Saturday (March 28) when Baldwin Wallace University comes to town for a 1:00 p.m. match. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
