Box ScoreNEW CONCORD, Ohio – Marietta College defeated Muskingum University by the score of 6-3 Saturday (April 5) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action. The Pioneers improve to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the OAC. Muskingum falls to 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in the OAC.
The Pioneers won two of the three doubles matches and then claimed four singles matches. Freshman
Carey Becker (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills), sophomore
Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) and junior
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens) each won both their doubles and singles matches.
Becker and Brown defeated Autumn Nelson and Sara Berning at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, while Jeffrey and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) were 8-0 winners over Jessica Barak and Alexandra Weinert at No. 3. Muskingum's Lindsay Mullen and Rebecca Keeley downed
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) at No. 1 by the score of 8-4.
In singles play, Becker beat Nelson at No. 2, 6-4 and 6-2. Brown blanked Weinert at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0, while Jeffrey downed Barak at No. 6, 6-1 and 6-0. Marietta's final point came at No. 4 singles where Gisser posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Berning.
Mullen beat
Beth Malony (Audubon, N.J./Audubon ), 6-2 and 6-0, at No. 1, while Keeley was victorious at No. 3 against Turner, 6-3 and 6-1.
