Box ScoreBEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's tennis team opened Ohio Athletic Conference on the road Saturday (March 29) at Baldwin Wallace University. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Pioneers 7-2 in the Lou Higgins Center.
Marietta falls to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace moves to 6-8 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
Baldwin Wallace swept the three doubles matches to take an early lead. Morgan Baker and Kelsey Blatt defeated
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) at No. 1 by the score of 8-4. Mackenzie Donalson and Mackenzi Baker beat
Carey Becker (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) and
Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) by the same score at No. 2. Claire Watts and Whitney Yoder took the No. 3 match against
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington), 8-2.
The Pioneers picked up points at Nos. 4 and 6 singles. Gisser beat Donalson at No. 4, 6-2, 3-6 and 10-2. Jeffrey posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Anastasia Koval at No. 6.
Blatt, Morgan Baker and Watts each posted straight-set victories for the Yellow Jackets in the top three singles slots. Blatt blanked Beth Maloney, 6-0 and 6-0 in the top spot. Baker was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Becker at No. 2 and Watts downed Turner, 6-2 and 6-3, at No. 3.
Baldwin Wallace's final team point came at No. 4 singles. Yoder posted a 6-1, 6-1 win against Brown.
