Box ScoreMARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team opened the fall competition season with an 8-1 loss to visiting Geneva College Friday (Oct. 3) afternoon. With two players studying abroad this semester, the Pioneers had to default a pair of matches.
Geneva (4-5 overall) led 3-0 after doubles play. Samantha Jensen and Elizabeth Stewart defeated
Carey Becker (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) by the score of 8-3 in the top spot. At No. 2, Megan Hinds and Sara Stoll posted an 8-0 win over
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) and Latrice Nelson. The Pioneers defaulted at No. 3.
Marietta's lone point came at No. 1 singles. Becker recorded a thrilling 8-6 victory over Stewart. Geneva's Stoll downed Turner at No. 2 by the score of 8-2, while Jensen was a 9-8 (7-5) winner at No. 3 over Bush.
At No. 4, Hinds was an 8-0 winner against Nelson. Jennifer Bullock defeated Mandee Young at No. 5, 8-1. The Pioneers defaulted at No. 6.
