HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Thursday (March 14) and one on Friday (March 15) to wrap up its spring break trip. The Pioneers are currently 0-6 overall.
On Thursday, the Pioneers fell to Bridgewater College (Va.) by the score of 8-1 and the got shutout by St. Mary's College (Md.), 9-0.
Freshman
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) tallied the Pioneers' point against Bridgewater with a win at No. singles. Seals defeated Miranda Donovan 6-2, 1-6 and 10-7.
In Marietta's final match of the Hilton Head trip, the Pioneers dropped a close 6-3 decision to Sweet Briar College (Va.).
The Pioneers' No. 1 doubles team of
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) posted an 8-3 win over Glory Bowman and Mary Elise Dugan to give Marietta its first point of the match. Sweet Briar won the other two doubles for a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
The Vixens won each of the top four singles matches to secure the team victory. Molleee Brown defeated Rachel Byrd at No. 5 singles, 6-3 and 7-5, while Seals defeated Allie Raifsnider in a three-set thriller at No. 6, 6-2, 3-6 and 10-8.
