HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped its first match of the spring season Monday (March 11) to Methodist University by the score of 9-0. Having played a match in the fall, the Pioneers fall to 0-2 overall. Methodist improves to 4-2 on the season.
The Monarchs blanked Marietta in doubles play posting three 8-0 decisions. The No. 1 team of Laura Baker and Katherine Meindl defeated Marietta's
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington). At No. 2, Isabella Graf and Hillary Petruska downed
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville), while Kelli Shelton and Emily Talley beat
Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) and
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) at No. 3 doubles.
Methodist continued to roll through the singles matches posting 6-0 and 6-0 wins in the top four positions. Meindl beat Gisser at the top spot. Baker defeated Turner at No. 2, Graf downed Bush at No. 3 and Shelton beat Brown at No. 4 singles.
Rachel Purser posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Seals at No. 5, while Petruska completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Thomas at No. 6 singles.
Marietta is back in action on Tuesday (March 12) with a 2:30 p.m. match against Bridgewater College (Va.).
