Muskingum swept the doubles play to take a 3-0 lead. Karin Mueller and Hollie Harrison downed
Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) at No. 1 by the score of 8-4.
Sarah Snow (Twentynine Palms, Calif./29 Palms) and
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens) lost 8-3 to Allison Thomas and Casandra Sarver at No. 2. Autumn Nelson and Renee Staudt posted a 9-8 (9-7) win at No. 3 over
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) and
Jamie Taylor (Allen, Md./Parkside).
The Pioneers posted victories at Nos. 1, 4 and 6 singles. Cornell took down Thomas at No. 1 by the scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Bush delivered at No. 4 with an 8-5 pro-set win against Staudt. At No. 6,
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) defeated Nelson, 6-0 and 6-3.
The Muskies won the other three singles matches. Mueller downed Gisser at No. 2 in a three-set thriller. Mueller dropped the first set 1-6 before winning the next two, 6-3 and 6-4.
Harrison and Jeffrey split sets at No. 3 with Harrison taking the first, 6-3, and Jeffrey evening the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Harrison won the match for the Muskies with a 7-5 victory in the third set.
Muskingum's final point came at No. 5 singles. Sarver defeated Snow, 6-1 and 6-3.
The Pioneers' next match is on Saturday (April 14) at 1 p.m. at Heidelberg University.
