ADA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's tennis team fell at Ohio Northern University by the score of 9-0 Saturday (March 31) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Ohio Northern is 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears swept the three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Michelle Tuma and Christie Gales defeated
Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) at No. 1 by the score of 8-1. At No. 2, Carly Olmstead and Lauren Rife downed
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) and
Jamie Taylor (Allen, Md./Parkside), 8-0. Kelsi Wurm and Kristen Timperman beat
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) and
Jessica Penny (Bellefontaine/Bellefontaine), 8-1, at No. 3.
Tuma downed Cornell at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-1. Brittany Miller was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Gisser at No. 2, while Olmstead defeated
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens) at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-0.
Wurm defeated Bush, 6-1 and 6-1, at No. 4. Timperman dispatched
Sarah Snow (Twentynine Palms, Calif./29 Palms) by the score of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Allison Talbert completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Turner in the No. 6 singles match.
Marietta hosts Capital University Friday (April 6) at 1 p.m.
