The Pioneers, who moved their match from Marietta to a neutral indoor site near Tiffin because of weather, improved to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. The Student Princes fell to 2-11, 1-2 OAC.
Marietta opened the match by winning two of the three doubles points.
Kristina Reed (Grove City/Grove City) and
Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa./South Park) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at first doubles, while Elizabeth Malony and
Sarah Campbell (Arnold, Md./Annapolis Senior) earned an 8-3 win at third doubles.
The match came down to first singles after
Sarah Snow (Twentynine Palms, Calif./29 Palms) won 6-4, 6-2 at fifth singles and
Christina Tirpak (Galena/Olentangy) won 6-3, 6-3 at sixth singles. Reed came through for her team once again with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
