Women's tennis defeats Capital 8-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Marietta College rallied to capture all three doubles points and never looked back en route to a 8-1 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) women's tennis victory over host Capital University Wednesday (April 14) afternoon. [Box Score]

The Pioneers improved to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the OAC. The Crusaders fell to 0-4, 0-4 in league play.

Junior Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa., South Park) and junior Kristina Reed (Grove City, Grove City) got things started with an 8-1 victory at second singles. Senior Lauren McKiernan (Parkersburg, W. Va., South) and sophomore MacKenzie Boyles (Fairmont, W.Va., East) earned the second point with an 8-6 win at first doubles. Sophomore Corin Bonnett (Bay Village, Bay) and freshman Sarah Snow (Twentynine Palms, Calif., 29 Palms) then stormed back from being down 0-4 to win 8-5 at third doubles.

McKiernan earned another point with her 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 win at first singles. Cornell defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-3 at third singles and Boyles won 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles, while Reed and Snow won 6-1, 6-0 at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.

Marietta is back in action Saturday (April 17) when it visits Heidelberg University for a match at 1 p.m.
