MEMPHIS, Tenn — Senior designated hitter
Chris Beatty (Seven Fields, Pa., Hampton) finished 4-for-4 with two home runs and nine RBI to propel the #15 Marietta College baseball team to a 20-8 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday (March 13) afternoon on the campus of Rhodes College. The Pioneers' fifth straight win helped them wrap up their spring break trip with a 7-2 record. The Titans fell to 0-3 on the spring. [

Beatty, the 2009 All-Mideast Region and All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, increased his hitting streak to seven games and improved his average to a team-best .457 with his performance on Saturday. He hit two-run home runs in the first and fourth, a RBI single in the third, a three-run triple in the fifth and drew a RBI walk with the bases loaded in the sixth. Beatty's nine-RBI performance was one shy of the school and OAC record held by Chris Tekulve in 2000 and matched by Brent Curtin in 2003.

Braden Park (Oxford, Talawanda) all had a pair of hits for Marietta, who out hit Illinois Wesleyan 18-11 in the win.
Freshman
Evan Brockmeier (Marietta/Marietta) earned his first collegiate win by throwing five solid innings in relief of freshman starter
Andrew Brown (Centerville/Centerville). Brockmeier scattered two runs on five hits and struck out four. Brown allowed four runs on five hits, walked two and fanned five in 2 2/3 innings. Freshman
Luke Langdon (Troy/Troy) retired the only batter he faced, while sophomore
Logan Lewis (Nashport/Tri-Valley) closed the game after allowing two runs on one hit and striking out one in one inning.
Marietta led 2-1 after one frame and 6-4 after three innings. The Pioneers then increased their lead to 20-6 by outscoring the Titans 14-2 over innings four through six. Illinois Wesleyan capped the scoring with two runs in the ninth.
Marietta returns to action with a busy opening weekend at Don Schaly Stadium. The Pioneers will take on Dubuque (Iowa) Friday (March 19) at 1 p.m., play Rose-Hulman (Ind.) in a doubleheader Saturday (March 20) at 2 p.m. and then close out the weekend Sunday (March 21) against Dubuque at 1 p.m. All of the action can be heard on WMOA-AM 1490 and online at
