2009: Dan was Marietta’s starting catcher for the third straight year as a junior in 2009. The three-year lettermen finished with 29 hits, including six doubles and three triples, in 41 games. Jones, who had seven multiple-hit games, added 25 runs scored and five RBI. He tied a career-high with three hits against both Shawnee State and Pitt-Greensburg (Pa.). One of the best defensive catchers in the country, Jones threw out 49% (17-of-35) of would be base stealers in 2009.

2008: Jones earned All-OAC second team honors in his second year as the Pioneers’ primary catcher in 2008. He batted .308 with seven doubles, four home runs, 30 runs scored and 21 RBI. Jones had 13 multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games. He had three-hit outings against Wilmington, La Roche (Pa.) and Heidelberg. Jones threw out 43.2% (19-of-44) of runners trying to steal base against him in 2008. He was also named to the OAC All-Tournament Team on the final weekend of the season.

2007: Jones won the primary catching duties during Marietta’s preseason and went on to start 40 games as a freshman in 2007. Jones finished with a .263 batting average. He had six extra-base hits, including five doubles, while scoring 23 runs and driving in eight. Jones had eight multiple-hit games, including a career-high three hits in four at-bats against Chapman (Calif.) at the World Series.

Coach Brewer says: “Dan has proven to be an elite defensive catcher. He has the ability to completely shut down the oppositions running game. Look for Dan to see a lot of action behind the dish again this spring.”
