WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio — The Marietta College men's golf team fired a school-record round of 287 on the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Friday (Apr. 24) afternoon at River Greens Golf Club. The Pioneers sit in first place with two rounds left to play.
Marietta's one-under-par, 287, was seven shots better than the previous school record of 294 on a par-72 course. The previous record was set at River Greens in the 2019 OAC Championship.
Ohio Northern is currently in second place with a score of 291. Otterbein is third at 293, followed by Mount Union (294), Heidelberg (301), Muskingum (304), Capital (306), and Baldwin Wallace (313).
Jeremiah Fizer (Chesapeake, Ohio/Fairland) is the leader in the clubhouse with a four-under-par score of 68, two shots better than Mount Union's Austin Wilhoit. Fizer's score if the best for a Pioneer since Carson Fox carded a six-under-par 66 in 2021.
The rest of the Pioneer lineup includes
Aidan Houghton (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) who shot a one-under-par 71 and is in third place.
Kelson McCurdy (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) is tied for seventh with a round of 73.
Zach Huscusson (Clinton, Ohio/Northwest) carded a round of 75 and is tied for nineteenth.
Andrew Korner (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) shot a round of 81.
Marietta tees off at 11:00 a.m. for round two on Saturday (Apr. 25).
