Pioneers have a good showing at the Oberlin Dan Kinsey Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track team competed in the Dan Kinsey Invitational hosted by Oberlin College Friday (Feb. 6) evening. Several Pioneers placed and set new personal records in the unscored meet.
 
Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) led the Pioneer women winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.72 and placing sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.98 seconds. Sophi Merickel (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) was second in the 400m crossing the line in 1:01.95. She also set a personal record in the 200m with a time of 28.34 seconds, good for ninth place.
 
Kileah Lieras-Kelley (Belpre, Ohio/) was second in the high jump with a height of 1.43 meters (4' 8.25"). Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) placed fourth in the mile run with a personal best time of 5:40.21, while placing seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.86, good for seventh place. Eden Tepe (Oregonia, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) finished fourth in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.40 meters (11' 1.75"). She set a personal record in the 200m with a time of 29.10 seconds.
 
Other personal records included Lillian Franchino (Waterford, Ohio/Waterford) in the 400m (1:06.87), Adrianna Potts (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) in the 400m (1:23.44), Leilani Navarro (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Wood County Christian School) in the miler run (6:47.34), Emily Comiskey (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) in the shot put (6.49 meters / 21' 3.5") and the weight throw (7.14 meters / 23' 5.25").
 
Andrew Franchini (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) had the lone event win for the Pioneer men. Franchini won the weight throw with a personal record mark of 16.08 meters (52' 9.25"). Zavier Lindsay (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln), Max King (Granville, Ohio/Granville), and Kallen Wilson (Logan, Ohio/Logan) all had second place showings. Lindsay posted a personal best time of 23.01 seconds in the 200m, King crossed the line in 52.307 seconds in the 400m, and Wilson had a personal record mark of 13.52 meters (44' 4.25") in the shot put.
 
Marietta's third place finishers included Vante Hodges in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.30 seconds, Lindsay in the 400m with a time of 52.308 seconds, Gunner Fertig (Eleanor, W.Va./Buffalo) with a personal best time of 9.03 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, and Cade Miracle (Galion, Ohio/Northmor) with a height of 4.30 meters (14' 1.25") in the pole vault. Fertig also set a personal record in the long jump with a mark of 5.81 meters (19' 0.75").
 
Several other Pioneers set new personal records. Isaiah Creditt-Commodore (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) in the 60m (7.37 seconds), Justin Marcum in the 60m (7.69 seconds), Benny Lewis (Sanderson, Fla./Baker County) in the 200m (26.24 seconds), Isaiah Mitchell (Hebron, Ohio/Lakewood) in the 400m (57.40 seconds), Ryan Bertolino (Marlton, N.J./Paul VI) in the 800m (2:10.17) and the mile run (4:49.59), Hunter Uptain (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes) in the mile (4:52.37), Kevin Hernandez (Plymouth, Ohio/Willard) in the mile (4:58.40), Cooper Warren (Logan, Ohio/Logan) in the pole vault (4.00 meters / 13' 1.5"), Max King (Granville, Ohio/Granville) in the long jump (5.98 meters / 19' 7.5"), Leo Grandizio (Garrettsville, Ohio/Garfield) in the long jump (5.88 meters / 19' 3.5") and the triple jump (10.67 meters / 35' 0.25"), and Sulayman Jalloh (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) in the shot put (9.94 meters / 32' 7.5").
 
Marietta is back in action at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University on Saturday (Feb. 14). Events start at 11:00 a.m.
