WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Marietta College track and field team was in action at the All-Ohio Indoor Track Championship Saturday (Feb. 14) hosted by Otterbein University. The Pioneer women finished fifteenth overall, while the me were sixteenth.
Ohio Wesleyan won the women's team title with 150.5 points. Case Western finished second with 85 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace (61.5 points), Ohio Northern (57.5), Otterbein (53), Capital (42), Denison (34), Muskingum (31.5), Kenyon (31), Wilmington (29), Oberlin (25), Heidelberg (23), Hiram (15), Mount St. Joseph (12), Marietta (8), and Wooster (5).
Sophi Merickel (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) was Marietta top placing woman. Merickel finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a personal record time of 1:01.22. The Pioneers' 4x400m relay team placed seventh with a time of 4:16.07.
Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) ran the lead leg, followed by Merickel,
Eden Tepe (Oregonia, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), and
Lillian Franchino (Waterford, Ohio/Waterford).
Tepe accounted for Marietta's other team points with a seventh place showing in the pole vault. Tepe cleared a height of 3.37 meters (11' 0.75").
Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) set a new personal record in the 3000-meter run. Helmick posted a time of 11:20.61 and finished in the top-20.
Baldwin Wallace claimed the men's team title with 130.5 points. Ohio Northern was second with 83 points, followed by Otterbein (80 points), Ohio Wesleyan (77), Capital (54), Wilmington (50.5), Oberlin (39), Denison (39), Kenyon (25), Heidelberg (18), Case Western (16), Hiram (14), Muskingum (13), Wooster (8), Mount St. Joseph (8), and Marietta (7).
Zavier Lindsay (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) had Marietta's best finish with a fifth-place performance in the 200-meter dash. Lindsay crossed the line in a personal record time of 22.77 seconds. Lindsay also ran the anchor leg on Marietta's 4x200-meter relay team that finished eighth with a time of 1:33.73.
Isaiah Creditt-Commodore (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) ran the lead leg, followed by
Ray Kelley (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier),
Isaiah Mitchell (Hebron, Ohio/Lakewood), and Lindsay.
Andrew Franchini (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) earned the Pioneer's other team points with a seventh-place finish in the weight throw. Franchini had a mark of 15.37 meters (50' 5.25").
Kallen Wilson (Logan, Ohio/Logan) notched a pair of personal records in the meet. He had a mark of 14.85 meters (48' 8.75") in the weight throw and 13.66 meters (44; 9.75") in the shot put.
Gunner Fertig (Eleanor, W.Va./Buffalo) also set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.99 seconds.
Marietta is back in action on Friday (Feb. 20) at the Ohio Wesleyan Tune-Up Meet. Events start at 5:00 p.m.
