ADRIAN, Michigan — The Marietta College women's rowing team raced in the Devils Lake Invitational Saturday (April 5) morning. The Pioneers competed in the varsity 4+ race.
"It was a great weekend at the Devils Lake Invite. The team got to experience all the unique parts of the sport from 40-degree weather, rain and wind, great racing, gritty victories, and the sportsmanship and camaraderie of sharing oars with regional rivals," Marietta head coach
Annie Devorak said. "We've got 3 weeks to make adjustments, gain fitness, and prepare for our championship."
Marietta won the varsity 4+ race with a time of 9:57.44. The Milwaukee School of Engineering was second with a time of 10:07.4, followed by Adrian (10:17.3), and Milwaukee School of Engineering B (10:34.1).
Despite a strong head wind and choppy conditions, the Pioneers managed to avoid the chaos at the start line. MSOE's B crew stuck with Marietta through the first 1,000-meters. With 500-meters to go, the Pioneers broke away and had an open water lead on the field.
Marietta is back on the water against Robert Morris University on Saturday (April 19).
