MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's rowing team hosted Saint John Fisher on the Muskingum River Saturday (April 12) morning. The Pioneers won the varsity 4+ race against a pair of Saint John Fisher crews.
"We needed to make a last-minute lineup change because of illness, but Campbell Anne (Friend) did a fantastic job of stepping into the varsity lineup as a true novice," Marietta head coach
Annie Devorak said. "Our crew raced tough with a tricky tail current and had a clean race with a high stroke rate to come out on top. It was an absolutely great day of racing, and we are looking forward to the MARC in three weeks."
Marietta crossed the finish line in 5:53.34, well ahead of Saint John Fisher A (6:07.69), and Saint John Fisher B (6:39.39).
The A boat from St. John Fisher gave the Pioneers a great race in the first half, holding contact through the Washington Street Bridge. Marietta was able to make their middle move count and broke free from the pack, opening water to a 14 second win over Fisher.
Marietta races at Robert Morris University on Saturday (April 19).
