MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's golf team opened the spring competition season with a second-place finish in the Pioneer Classic Sunday (Mar. 23) afternoon at the Marietta Country Club. The Pioneers hosted players from eight schools on the par-70, 6205-yard course for two days of golf.
Washington and Jefferson College won the team title by four strokes posting a two-round total of 594 (309-285). Marietta finished with a 598 (297-301), followed by Otterbein 609 (308-301), Capital 623 (311-312), Lakeland 624 (315-309), Bethany 695 (345-350), and Eastern 696 (355-341).
Washington and Jefferson's William Ainsworth fired a 5-under par 65 today to win medalist honors. His two round score was even par 140 (75-65). Marietta's
Zach Huscusson (Clinton, Ohio/Northwest) and
Hunter Wilson (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) finished second and third, respectively. Huscusson shot a 145 (74-71), while Wilson carded a 147 (73-74).
Mason Reville (Northfield, Ohio/Nordonia) tied for eleventh with a 153 (72-81).
Andrew Korner (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) posted a two-day score of 161 (86-75, while
Kelson McCurdy (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) rounded out the Pioneer lineup with a 162 (78-84).
Three Pioneers played as individuals.
Grayson Herb (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) placed sixth with a score of 150 (75-75).
Jaekob Conard (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Comprehensive) carded a 156 (80-76) to finish 17th and
Mason Jackson (Guysville, Ohio/Federal Hocking) finished tied for 34th place with a 170 (84-86).
Marietta is back in action at the Grove City Invitational on Thursday (Mar. 27) at the Grove City Country Club.
