MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2025-26 season with the Pioneers' annual First Glimpse Meet Friday (Dec. 5) afternoon in the Dyson-Baudo Recreation Center. Several Pioneers started the season with personal record performances.
On the track for the men
Matthew Siegler (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin),
Gunner Fertig (Eleanor, W.Va./Buffalo), and
Matthew Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) each set personal bests while winning their respective events. Siegler ran a 6.64 second in the 55-meter dash prelims and then won the final with a time of 6.80 seconds. Fertig did the same in the 55-meter hurdles posting a time of 8.67 seconds in the prelims and then winning the final in 8.89 seconds. Fehrman won the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.81 seconds.
Logan Falls (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) set personal bests in the 55-meter dash (7.34) and 200-meter dash (26.20).
Caleb Moore (New Richmond, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) did the same running a 7.14 in the 55m and 26.23 in the 200m.
Six Pioneers set bests in the mile run.
Ryan Bertolino (Marlton, N.J./Paul VI) (4:56.15),
Aiden Westerman (Vincent, Ohio/Warren Local) (4:56.61),
Hunter Uptain (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes) (4:57. 91),
Charles Estadt (Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah) (4:58.44),
Kevin Hernandez (Plymouth, Ohio/Willard) (4:58.61), and
Hunter Wick (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) (6:09.10) all notched PR's in the race. Uptain (9:57.21) and Estadt (10:01.09) also set personal records in the 3000-meter run.
In the field events,
Kallen Wilson (Logan, Ohio/Logan) and
Jordan Hensley (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) pulled the double with personal records in the weight throw and shot put. Wilson notched a mark of 13.98 meters (45' 10.5") in the weight throw and 12.17 meters (39' 11.25") in the shot. Hensley had a distance of 7.51 meters (24' 7.75") in the weight throw and 10.56 meters (34' 7.75") in the shot.
Evan Fee (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) and
Andrew Franchini (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) also PR'd in the weight throw. Fee posted a mark of 14.19 meters (46' 6.75"), while Franchini marked at 15.05 meters (49' 4.5").
Fertig (5.77 meters / 18' 11.25") and
Max King (Granville, Ohio/Granville) (5.81 meters / 19' 0.75") posted personal bests in the long jump, while
Cael McCutcheon (Point Pleasant, W.Va./Point Pleasant) (11.70 meters / 38' 4.75") did so in the triple jump.
Cade Miracle (Galion, Ohio/Northmor) set a personal best in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.95 meters (12' 11.5").
For the Marietta women,
Lillian Franchino (Waterford, Ohio/Waterford) notched personal records in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.30 seconds and the long jump with a distance of 4.67 meters (15' 4").
Sadie Gray (Whipple, Ohio/Marietta) posted a personal best time of 7.44 seconds in the 55m dash prelims and then won the final with a time of 7.85 seconds.
Sophi Merickel (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) and
Leilani Navarro (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Wood County Christian School) had bests in the 200-meter dash and 600-meter run, respectively. Merickel had a time of 29.42 seconds, while Navarro posted a time of 2:00.38.
Marietta will take a break for the Christmas Holiday and is back in action on January 16th when the Pioneers host the Marietta Ice Breaker Meet.
