ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College track and field team competed in the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship on Thursday (May 4). The Pioneer women sit in a tie for sixth place, while the men are in eighth place after the first day of competition.
Ohio Northern leads the women's team standings with 70 points. Mount Union is in second place with 64 points, followed by John Carroll (60 points), Heidelberg (30), Otterbein (21), Baldwin Wallace (10), Marietta (10), Capital (4), Muskingum (2), and Wilmington (2).
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) led the Pioneers with a second-place finish in the women's pole vault earning All-OAC honors. Thompson cleared a personal record height of 3.86 meters (12'8") tying the Marietta College outdoor record set by Kim Keesler in 2010.
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) notched a seventh-place finish in the discus throw. Huffman's best mark was 38.03 meters (124'9").
Mount Union leads the men's team standings with 75 points. John Carroll is currently second with 54 points, followed by Otterbein (35 points), Capital (29), Ohio Northern (24), Wilmington (24), Baldwin Wallace (16), Marietta (9), Heidelberg (5), and Muskingum (2).
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) accounted for all of the Pioneers' points on day one. Painter placed fourth in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.78 meters (22'3"). He also placed fifth in the javelin throw with a mark of 46.98 meters (154'1").
The Championship concludes on Friday (May 5). Events start at 11:00 a.m.
