ROCHESTER, New York — Marietta College freshman
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) placed tenth in the women's pole vault Friday (May 26) evening at the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
"This caps off a great freshman campaign for Emily. A couple of school records and tied for tenth in the nation," Marietta head coach
Jason Davis said. "Obviously, we wanted to be an All-American, but I am proud of her efforts. There are more big things to come for her."
Competing in her first National Championship, Thompson missed on her first attempt of the competition. She quickly recovered and cleared the bar in each of her next two attempts clearing 3.50 meters (11'5.75") and 3.65 meters (11'11.75").
With the bar moved to 3.80 meters (12'5.5"), Thompson missed on her first attempt before clearing the bar on her second attempt at the height. Thompson's vault was the second-best of her young career behind her Marietta College record tying mark of 3.86 meters (12'8") she set three weeks ago in the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
Thompson's rookie season came to end with three misses at 3.85 meters (12'7.5").
