Painter sets school record in the decathlon

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Marietta College senior Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) won the Muskingum Invitational men's decathlon Friday (April 7) afternoon. Painter was in first place after the first five events were contested on Thursday and then won the discus and placed second in two other events on Friday to secure the overall victory.

Painter finished with a Marietta College school record 5,711 points. He surpassed the old Pioneer record of 5,523 points set by Nicholas Miller in 2014. Painter's point total ranks fourth this season in NCAA Division III.

Cass Dobrowolski from Hillsdale finished second with 5,663 points, followed by Hillsdale's John Baldwin (5,450), West Virginia Wesleyan's Destry Nelson (4,014) and Nathan Roemer (3,381), and West Liberty's Jonathan Stout (2,784).

The first event on Friday was the 110-meter hurdles. Baldwin won the event with a time of 15.47 seconds. Painter was second crossing the line in 15.77 seconds.

Painter won the next event with a personal record throw of 29.78 meters (97'8") in the discus. He followed that with a second-place finish in the pole vault. Painter cleared a personal record height of 3.60 meters (11'9.75").  Baldwin won the pole vault with a height of 3.80 meters (12'5.5").

The javelin throw was next. Painter placed third with a distance of 36.95 meters (121'3"). Dobrowolski won with a mark of 41.13 meters (134'11").

The final event was the 1,500-meter run. Painter crossed the line in fifth place with a personal record time of 5:34.70. Stout won the event with a time of 4:52.37.
