ASHLAND, Ohio — Marietta College senior
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) sits in second place after day one of the men's heptathlon Friday (Feb. 3) at the Ashland University Jud Logan Light Giver Collegiate Open track meet.
"It was a great day today for Addison with four PR's and a school record," Marietta head coach
Jason Davis said. "We hope to keep the momentum going into tomorrow. This should motivate the rest of the squad going into tomorrow's meet."
Findlay's Keandre Marlow is the day one leader with 2,775 points through the first four events. The final three events will be contested on Saturday. Painter is close behind in second place with 2,723 points, followed by Ashland's Dylan Phelps and Capital's Andy Fullmer each with 2,633 points.
Painter set personal records in all four of Friday's events including a school record in the long jump. He started the competition with a second place showing in the 60-meter dash crossing the line in 7.20 seconds, three-hundredths of a second behind Phelps's winning time of 7.17 seconds.
Long jump was the second event and Painter nailed the winning jump on his first of three attempts soaring 6.97 meters (22'10.5"). His mark set Marietta's school record. The previous record was 6.88 meters (22'7.0") by Jim Eibel in 1988.
Up next was the shot put and Painter saved his best throw for last hitting a mark of 10.12 meters (33'2.5"). Good for fifth place in the event. The final event of day one was the high jump. Painter cleared his first attempt at 1.78 meters (5'10") to place sixth.
The final three events on Saturday will include the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and the 1,000-meter run.
